What We Do Differently
It’s hard to know where to begin when you feel like you're stuck in the in-between.
You’ve just finished pelvic floor rehab, or you're navigating symptoms of menopause, or maybe you're managing a diagnosis like PCOS or low bone density.
You may be wondering… “How do I keep active? How am I supposed to exercise now?"
You want to feel better, to feel strong.
But perhaps a gym space is overwhelming alongside all the advice out there online and on social media.
That’s where we come in.
At Strength By Women, we exist because that space between recovery and strength is often overlooked.
Our clinic was born out of necessity, for women who feel unsure how to exercise safely around their condition or injury or changing bodies,
for those asking what comes after rehab,
and for those who are want to feel strong again but don’t know where to start.
As wonderful as they are, with the amazing work they do, we are not personal trainers and we not physiotherapists
Instead, we sit somewhere in the middle- bridging the gap between each of those spaces.
Bridging the Gap
A physiotherapist plays a very important role in the diagnosis and acute care of our client’s injuries and we actually need to work closely with them.
They provide us the complete picture as to what’s going on and what rehab to focus on.
We then start where your physiotherapist might leave you off, usually once your pain has stabilised but your body still needs guidance.
We take your rehab exercises and evolve them into meaningful, functional strength work.
Think of this as a return to real-life movement.
You’ve been working on your kegels and pelvic floor strength and now it’s time to focus on how the pelvic floor can function during a squat, a deadlift or an upper body pull/push.
We train squats because you squat to get up from a chair.
We load deadlifts because you lift your kids or the laundry basket.
We teach rows and presses to support posture and upper body strength because you’re holding and feeding your baby.
And we do this all while keeping your whole health in mind—your hormones, your bone health, your fatigue levels, your history.
We use the latest research to inform what exercise are effective and safe, then create a program for you.
The How
Our process is grounded in simplicity, patience, and intention.
We combine Pilates floor work, rehab, machine weights, and free weights.
First, we restore.
We teach you how to activate muscles that may have been offline- deep core, glutes, stabilisers.
Then how to move through full, healthy joint ranges.
We focus on control and confidence before weights.
This might mean starting with bodyweight floor work or resistance bands.
Then we progress to the weights, gradually layering in complexity and strength, until you’re ready to load a barbell with confidence.
It’s never about rushing to heavy weights; it’s about building trust in your body again.
You’ll learn how to listen to your body, not fight it.
How to work with your energy, not in spite of it.
And how to know when to push and when to rest.
Health Beyond Numbers
We also know how easy it is to be pulled into numbers: scales, macros, reps, kgs.
While we do track progress, it’s not about the weight on the scale or how much you can lift in one week.
We’re more interested in what’s changed in your day-to-day.
Are you able to hold your kids without neck pain?
Are you experiencing less stiffness and pain in your back when you bend over?
Have your energy levels shifted?
These outcomes worth more celebrating: the small wins that accumulate over time and allow you to feel like yourself again or maybe even better than before.
A Personal Beginning
If I’m honest, I thought I already knew how to care for my body.
As an exercise professional, movement was second nature.
But it wasn’t until I became pregnant that I really had to slow down and listen.
My body no longer responded the way it used to, and I realised I was still chasing progress in ways that didn’t always serve me.
My pregnancy became a turning point.
A moment of learning what true care looked like.
Less punishment, more partnership with my body.
That experience has helped shaped we do at the clinic.
